“Maybe tomorrow,” I say.
Oh, I slay myself. Make that “sometime.” I’m
taking the opportunity to move the whole thing over to .Mac
using Apple’s tools. Most of the struggle involves
trying not to micromanage everything, to just relax and let
all the slick templates and integration do the work at least
for now. When (if?) this actually happens, this site will become
more of a place for me to play with web technologies that I’m
not yet familiar with, with links to the blog, of course.

What a bracing thunderstorm this morning!
I have something of a grudge against the
Iowa Democratic Party machine. Among many other things, they
worked hard to torpedo Dean’s candidacy. So I am not
in the least displeased to see that two of the more important
candidates I voted for—Chet Culver for Governor and
Denise O’Brien for Agricultural Secretary—are
well on their way to winning the primary. While neither is
a pure outsider, neither is the machine’s overwhelming
choice (those honors go to Mike Blouin and Dusky Terry,
respectively). I hope these results carry out to the end.
[update: Blouin conceded to Culver.]
I leaned toward Fallon as a candidate until
I found out that he backed Nader in 2000 (long story). Still, I’m
heartened by his fairly strong showing in the primaries. He’s
currently got about 28% of the vote. [update: With almost 92% reporting,
he's at 25.8%.] This will tell whoever does win [update: Culver]
that they’d better run to the left. This is
another reason why I voted for Culver. He won’t have
too much trouble running left anyway. He’s already
out-polling Nussle.
There was one poor, lonely touch-screen
voting machine in the voting area. Nobody used it when I was
there. Several people made a point of avoiding it. Even the
volunteers were talking about how you couldn’t trust
something that doesn’t leave a paper trail. It was an
‘iVotronic’ or something like that. The tabulator
was an ES&S machine, which didn’t make me feel
better. ES&S is stocked to the gills with diehard
Republican loyalists.
