This first collaboration between Sinatra and Billy May—the man Sinatra originally wanted to help launch his tenure with Capitol Records—is filled with May's trademark humor and brassy, swinging arrangements. This album is the perfect travelling music as the coolest tour guide in the world invites us to hop aboard a gleaming TWA Starliner and join him on a romantic and adventerous romp around the world. Not the cool and hyper-prepared arranger that Nelson Riddle was, Billy May was often finishing charts just minutes before Sinatra walked into the studio, but the results are pure magic. From the bright, playful up-tempo numbers to the beautifully understated romantic ballads, this album runs the gamut of moods and is a pure delight.

The release of this album was met with such eager anticipation that the number one radio station in Los Angeles played the entire album during morning drive time on the day it was released. The album spent five weeks at No. 1 on the U.S. charts in early 1958 and remained on the charts for a total of 71 weeks.

Several of the bonus tracks are performances with arrangements by Nelson Riddle that were written in the Billy May style for one of those earlier recording dates in 1953.

No one could accuse Sinatra of wasting time in the studio—he laid down four tracks per night and recorded the entire album in three sessions: October 1, 3, and 8, 1957.
