At First Baptist
Church, we view the Christian life as one of growing in faith
and discipleship. Through the study of the Bible and our Christian
tradition, through spiritual reflection, and through sharing
together in the practices of faith, we are formed into faithful
followers of Christ.
Adult
Forum
Our weekly Adult Forum provides an opportunity for study,
exploration, and lively discussion every Sunday morning. Recent
topics include: the book of Genesis, an examination of The
Da Vinci Code, studies of books by Philip Yancey and Rowan
Williams, and Christianity and Islam. The Adult Forum meets
downstairs in the Fellowship Hall.
Bible
Study
A small group for Bible study, prayer, and spiritual growth
meets weekly at the church.
Faith
& Film
This group gathers in people's homes on one Friday night each
month to watch and discuss films that explore themes of faith,
values, or spirituality. We enjoy a broad range of movies.
A sample of recent films includes Whale Rider, Big Fish, Hotel
Rwanda, Chronicles of Narnia, Kingdom of Heaven, and Crash.
Baptismal
Classes
For those asking to be baptized, our Pastor offers a series
of several classes which provide a basic introduction to the
Christian faith, as well as an understanding of the meaning
of Christian Baptism.
Spiritual
Retreats
Recent retreats have included a weekend at Pictured Rocks
Camp and Retreat Center in Monticello,
and several days at New Melleray Abbey, a Trappist monastery
just outside of Dubuque.
