The Daily Republic: The Long Night Has Passed
News is spreading throughout the Republic that General Despil, of the former Courts of Chaos, infiltrated the Amber
lunar base, Mirelle, and fired the main gun upon the Senate Building, wounding hundreds.
Due to the brave efforts of many, Despil was forced to retreat and the base personnel were rescued before he could
inflict further malice or invade Amber City.
However, this incursion into the heart of the great Shadow Republic has forced senators to reconsider the effectiveness
of security and protection from further criminal threats. The Senate majority group, New World Order, has stated that it
will debate several issues the day after the Amber coronation which will decisively determine the best course of action for
the good of the Republic. Relocating the Senate to Ygg will again come before the Senate, as will the creation of a Republic
Defense Force to replace the scandal ridden Jedi Order, which of late includes criminal charges against Master Benedict and other Jedi.
A heroes ceremony will be held the day after Prince Eric is crowned King of Amber. It will be held in the Senate Plaza
outside where the Senate Building was blasted.

The Daily Republic: Voices In the Night
A choir of voices rang out in the lonesome night, in exotic lisping tones word upon word unknown by those alive
today, echoing the lost ages through a sound captured in crystal clarity and through a shimmering light which burst
forth from the ground, a path stretching from the base of Mt. Kolvir that supports the glittering Castle Amber, to
the royal Trench Rivlok that holds Rebma Palace and the surrounding Old Rebma below in the deeper waters where ancient
secrets lie in wait to be discovered.
At the center of the road is the Arch which mark the division of territories between Amber and Rebma, and according
to legends is where King Oberon and Queen Moire first met more than five centuries ago to sign a treaty between their lands.

The Daily Republic: Rebma Establishes
Director of Special Projects in Archeology
A small formal ceremony in Rebma Castle is held to announce
Lysalas as the Director of Special Projects in Archeology
for the Crown of Rebma. The elite of Rebmian social society,
Republic researchers, and others have been invited to attend
the event.
Of special note, is that Lysalas is non-Rebmian, which breaks
with Rebmian traditions. However, when questioned the Minister
of Internal Affairs commented that "While Rebma is renown
for its educated professional, there are occasions when outsiders
do meet its expectations and hope that Director Lysalas will
perform to Rebma's satisfaction."

The Daily Republic: Tightening the Rim?
Heightened alert within the Republic seems warranted with
the growing concerns towards Republic security. Security officials
reassure us that measures to ensure peace and safety are fully
functional. However, we have reports that this may not be
the case.
At this very moment rival sides within the Republic Senate
are hurrying to decide the fate of all Republic citizens through
a massive campaign to shift the political balance from one
of cautious investigation to a more proactive defensive structure.
Some of these measures may include the creation of a Republic
armed forces to support if not ultimately to replace the philosophical
Jedi Order who have recently proven themselves unpredictable
and a threat from within their own ranks.
Other issues consist of closer AstralWorks communication
monitoring and more serious personnel background checks, especially
along the Republic Rim and core Shadow Realms.
Increased Hutt activity added to the reports that King Corwin
may now be their prisoner and that the status of Amber's throne
places the Republic's fate in unpredictable circumstances.
There are rumors that a "Plan for Peace Conference"
on Shadow Tara may be held to diffuse the tensions within
the Senate and associates.
More information may be available later. As a closing remark,
the Republic has faced adversity and grown as a result. Let
us hope that whatever decisions are made are done so with
wisdom and full knowledge of possible results to come.

The Daily Republic: Going to Glory?
A picture of a beautiful woman in her late 20's dressed in
green and silver with shoulder length blonde hair and dazzling
smile appears with her name below on the vid, 'Moreena Dacton.'
In a trained female media voice she begins, "Good day.
I'm Moreena Dacton and you're watching The Daily Republic.
Earlier today in Shadow Kashfa we interviewed the up and rising
actor, Falkner Hesperia Veranth who wanted to share his opinions
regarding the return of Eric of Amber."
Falkner is dressed in a casual suite with a silk shirt of
crimson and loose fitting black pants. His green hair is tied
back but not in a braid. He has 5 o'clock shadow on his face
and his skin is tan. Since he had been fencing etc. he has
had a fencing foil hung at his side.
Moreena: "You support the return to power by the recently
returned Eric of Amber. To what Golden Age do you perceive
him as achieving in this vastly different social-political
climate?"
Falkner: He smirks and puts on his best smile, "Well
Moreena, Eric held Amber even through a time of great turmoil.
The late King Oberon had gone missing, and instead of heading
off to explore the cosmo's Eric stayed to do what needed to
be done. He ruled Amber, and ruled it well. The man was beset
by his brothers, and wasn't in favor in Rebma, but he had
the guts to not give in, hell he even spared his brother's
life when Corwin and Bleys most assuredly would have taken
his. Eric was merciful, a good ruler and someone not affraid
to fight on the battlefield even when the forces of chaos
came at Amber."
Moreena: "So you believe that Eric's presence will stabilize
the region?"
Falkner: "Yes Moreena, I do."
Moreena: "How do you believe Eric's presence will affect
the member nations of the Republic, or even your home of Rebma?"
Falkner: "I think there will certainly need to be a
time for adjustment, as any change would. As far as Rebma,
times have changed, hopefully this time around Eric will realize
support from Rebma would help smooth things over greatly."
Moreena: She smiles, "Thank you for your time, Mr. Hesperia
Veranth, better known to many as, Falkner. This is Moreena
Dacton, from The Daily Republic signing off."

The Daily Republic: Remarks by Johan Bek on Bounty Increases
1 Billion Credits. Lets think about that, shall we? With
that much money, I could buy a small fleet of ships. Or a
planet on the Outer Rim. Or a year's supply of prime-quality
spoo. Or...
I could buy the head of a beloved citizen of the Republic.
One who has been charged with no crime. Who is the first citizen
ever to be hunted by bounty hunters on the Senate's behalf.
Cara Sylvain, heroine of the Weirmonken Conflict. Helena
Shevala, fellow journalist and noted enemy of corruption.
(For instance, see her story _here_) Aidan De'Eain, Jedi Padawan.
Sometime student of Master Dworkin himself. Arrested for arguing
with an employee of the Senate. Fled to escape the criminal
conditions of underfunded jails. (Where has the funding gone?
To line the pockets of the Senators, of course) Their sentence:
execution, without trial.
I urge all my fellow citizens to stand up for their rights!
Let your Senators know that this is wrong! If they still won't
listen, strike them where it hurts: their credit chips. After
all, if they have billions of credits to give to bounty hunters,
how many credits should rightfully belong to you?

The Daily Republic: Senate at a Stand Still
With the Senate divided almost entirely in half over a number
of issues regarding the present and future state of the Republic,
Supreme Chancellor Martin called a recess of one month's time,
hoping to give both sides the opportunity to cool their jets
and open their minds to alternate perspectives.
Topics such as the parasite menace, fear of rogue Jedi, conspiracy
theories, and heightened criminal activity on the edge of
Republic Shadowspace has increased political tension throughout
the member Shadow nations, pushing available resources to
their record limits.

The Daily Republic: A Royal Welcome in Amber
Amber City was alive with full honors by the Amber Royal
Family, city representatives, and most of the Fundamentalists
within the Senate as they formally greeted a long lost Amberite.
Trumpets blared and soldiers marched onsite as Eric of Amber
was escorted by Regent Gerard (Admiral of the Amber Navy)
of Amber, Master (and acting head) Benedict of the Jedi Order,
Princess Llewella (first minister to Queen Xanieas of Rebma),
and Prince Ian of Karm (former Supreme Chancellor of the Republic).
General statements have been issued that Eric will in time
give formal announcements regarding his "Return from
the Dead," but at this time will enjoy the company of
his family, in private.
The Supreme Chancellor Martin's office plans to meet with
the legendary "King Eric of Amber" later in the
week. It is rumored that Eric plans to visit Rebma, and Karm,
among others within the month.

The Daily Republic: Conspiracy Conjectured on Shadow Avernus
MARLA CARRE: Scandal rocked the journalistic and entertainment
worlds last night on the distant Shadow of Avernus, as both
the notable Focus columnist Helena Shevala and famous singer
Cara Sylvain reach the headlines in a very different fashion
than before. As reported by our Avernus correspondent, Phil
Phlannery.
PHIL PHLANNERY [in a snobby British accent]: It is a shocking
story, Marla, for its unexpectedness if nothing else. Who
knew that the serene and lovely countenance of the delightful
Helena Shevala could hide such scandal? And famous singer
Cara Sylvain’s name doesn’t avoid a splash in
the mud this morning, either.
Phlannery walks over to stand in front of an elaborately
decorated hotel entrance.
"It all began as a peaceful day. Sunny, as are all days
here on the rocky and harsh world of Avernus, here at the
well-reputed Vermilion Palace Hotel in Mos Jesby. The Vermilion
Palace is the recently completed hotel and casino complex
funded by Prince Bleys of Amber, Avernus’ chief benefactor.
"Sylvain, invited here to Avernus purportedly as Prince
Bleys’ special guest, was planning a special concert,
despite the cancellation of her most recent tour due to unspecified
personal reasons. Reports indicate that Prince Bleys himself
requested the concert, at a dinner the night before, which
included another special guest to Avernus, Helena Shevala.
Cut to view of the amphitheater in the Vermilion Palace,
as well as stock images of Cara performing at various concerts
during the voiceover.
"The next day, after a schedule full of meetings with
people with questionable reputations, we catch up with both
women at Sylvain’s concert, where witnesses recount
Shevala danced with someone whose description matches that
of the renowned Master Dworkin of Amber. Their dance was interrupted
by one of Sylvain’s security personnel, who spent some
time talking to them before returning to his duties. Unconfirmed
reports indicate that the security person in question now
claims to be a Jedi Knight by the name of Aidan De’Eain,
and had met with Shevala several times earlier that day.
"In the same vein, Sylvain herself drew a number of
whispers when she performed a lap dance while singing her
infamous ‘Taboo’ to none other than Prince Bleys
himself during the concert. This in front of Sylvain’s
long-time lover, Senator Marcus Grakt of Shadow Tara, causing
many to conjecture that their relationship is on the rocks.
Grakt tried to re-establish his position right after the concert,
meeting with her privately as well as having a public dance.
This move seems to have had limited success, as the fickle
songstress was seen later that evening having dinner with
another recent arrival on Avernus – King Rinaldo of
Kashfa.
Cut to a slow pan of the street in front of the Palace. "Shevala
and Dworkin then went for a walk after the concert. None can
say exactly what they spoke of, but guesses can be made by
the events that followed shortly after returning to the Palace
for a dinner meeting with De’Eain in the hotel’s
restaurant.
Cut back to Phlannery sitting at a booth in the Palace restaurant.
"The three sat here, ordering a variety of meals including
barbecued ribs for Master Dworkin. Sylvain was sitting only
a small distance away over there." He points to another
table. "What followed is an unprecedented series of events
that led to the arrest and detention of Rinaldo, Shevala,
and De’Eain, as well as a warrant issued for Sylvain’s
arrest for conspiracy against the Republic after she blasted
out of Avernus aboard her private ship.
"During dinner, witnesses report that Master Dworkin
became more and more agitated with Shevala and De’Eain.
Several outbursts, including the remark that he was going
to ‘Crush the life’ out of De’Eain, as well
as calling him a ‘slimy double-dealing son of a red-head’
were overheard by many present in the restaurant. What exactly
Dworkin had against De’Eain had not become clear, however,
when suddenly Dworkin passed out, slumping over the table
in a fit some witnesses report was similar to the way other
Jedi have been acting since the introduction of the parasite
into the Republic.
Cut to a view of a sterile hallway with several plain doors.
"Master Dworkin was rushed here, to the medical facilities
in the Vermilion Palace. He was accompanied, along with the
medical personnel, by Shevala, De’Eain, and Sylvain.
So here you have Sylvain and Shevala, two people who were
seen having a private dinner with Prince Bleys the night before.
Along with De’Eain, who has had several dealings with
Shevala and currently works for Sylvain, and King Rinaldo
of Kashfa, who has an apparent interest in Sylvain.
Cut back to Phlannery, still in the restaurant. "Dworkin
was taken safely out of De’Eain’s hands and put
into the care of medical personnel. Reports indicate that
De’Eain waited outside the door, under guard, while
King Rinaldo visited with his kinsman, and Shevala and Sylvain
left for another private meeting with Prince Bleys. But when
Shevala returned, she and De’Eain had the audacity to
ask to see Dworkin. They were refused.
"Official reports of the Marines on duty indicate that
both De’Eain and Shevala became belligerent at that
point, demanding to see Dworkin. King Rinaldo attempted to
mediate, and Sylvain returned to the scene to join in on the
demands to see Dworkin. De’Eain then verbally assaulted
the officer on duty, prompting the arrest of all the involved
parties.
Cut back to Phlannery standing at the mouth of a dark tunnel.
"De’Eain, Shevala, Sylvain, and Rinaldo were taken
to one of the underground tunnels leading to the detention
area maintained by Bleys for the marines he trains for Amber.
A tunnel very similar to this one. Long, dark, cold at night,
it can be a frightening place. What happened exactly in the
tunnel is uncertain, as reports conflicts and no official
word on questioning the prisoners has been issued. What we
know is only this.
"While being taken for processing for their behavior
in the restaurant and outside the medical facility, Shevala,
clearly in a state of hysteria, admitted that the group was
involved in a conspiracy against the Republic, also implicating
Prince Bleys. She began threatening the guards, resulting
in her being physically restrained. At this time, De’Eain
apparently tried to engineer an escape, attacking a marine
and taking possession of his weapon. It was at this time that
forces hired by Sylvain blasted into the detention area, shooting
several marines and allowing Sylvain to escape. However, King
Rinaldo, Shevala, and De’Eain, who had been wounded
during his attempted escape, were left behind and are now
in custody. Sylvain, who blasted away in her ship, has been
listed as one of the Republic’s most wanted.
"So what is this conspiracy that has been brewing here
on Avernus between Sylvain, Shevala, Rinaldo, and Bleys? Where
is Bleys, now that his co-conspirators are under wraps? Was
Sylvain allowed to escape in the hopes that she would lead
Republic forces to find the missing Prince? Who is De’Eain
and what will the Jedi have to say about an imposter claiming
to be a Jedi who also was carrying a lightsaber, which is
a restricted weapon. None can say for sure, until the prisoners
have been questioned, and higher authorities are able to get
to the bottom of these incidents.
"And as for Dworkin? Dworkin is still resting comfortably
in the Palace’s medical facilities, none the worse for
wear. I’ll be here with the latest as it happens, Marla.
This is Phil Phlannery on Avernus."
MARLA: Thank you, Phil. Indeed a shocking and curious set
of events, as well as a sad blow to the entertainment and
journalistic worlds today. Just as a further note on that
story, in an unprecedented move, Supreme Chancellor Martin
has authorized the use of bounty hunters in the hunt for Sylvain.
As you know, the use of bounty hunters by the Republic has
never before been legalized. We’ll keep you updated
on the status of the hunt, as it progresses.

The Daily Republic: Glitches in the Net
For several weeks now technicians have been carefully watching
what they have called, "glitches" in the TrumpNet
terminals. First reported by an anonymous source within Amber
City two months back, the glitches, seem to be slight lag
times between sending and receiving carrying signals between
two separate TrumpNet units.
Technicians are still baffled by the increase and theorize
that it may have something to do with the rapid increase in
TrumpNet terminals as the cost for them decreases with demand.

Idle Chatter
Here are a number of things commonly mentioned by people
here and there.
"Did you hear that? They're raising the bounty on those
traitors? 1,000,000,000 Republic credits on each head for
that Cara Sylvain, Helena Shevala, and Aidan De'Eain. Holy
Unicorn, I'm going to sign up to be a bounty hunter!"
"They'll never pay it. I hear the Senate is on the brink
of collapse with all the spending they make for their luxury
trips and hordes of retainers. They'll keep you buried in
forms and you'll never see one Credit!"
"So that Unicorn Priest was murdered because he knew
who was gonna take King Random? Why didn't they just kidnap
the priest? And more, how'd he know?" "I bet the
whole Church knows who's behind the plot to take down King
Random's regime. And that Gerard guy hasn't been leaning on
it so my bet is that he's in on things too."
"You know, the Jedi, they've been around for a while.
I think they deserve more respect. Maybe we can pay taxes
to help them. Their religion is way better than any I've come
across in Shadow." "You're an idiot. The Jedi are
nothing more than genetically bred super soldiers who will
one day lock us mundanes up for the wants of the Supreme Chancellor.
You'll see. I'm moving in a year. You better too."
"That King Corwin is so dreamy. I would love to marry
him." "Wake up. He's in love his with brother, King
Random. That's why he's off looking for Random instead of
helping Prince Gerard with Amber."
"Did you hear about the homicide after that duel in
Avalon?" "No!" "Yeah, that Johan guy bested
some noble and then later on finished the guy off. Avalon
people are mad as hell. I wouldn't want to be Johan for all
the Credits in the Multiverse." "I can't believe
it. He's a writer, not a murderer."
"Texorami's got the best casino--" "No, Bleys'
Vermilion Palace does--" "Not after those Jedi messed
with it. We all know what really happened. King Rinaldo was
holding something over that Master Benedict so he got the
Jedi to fake a battle right in the middle of the new Vermilion
Palace and now no one wants to visit Avernus. Clever guy that
Rinaldo is." "But that doesn't help Kashfa's situation,
does it?" "Sure it does. Rinaldo was chief in helping
Texorami upgrade. They are in it together. Rinaldo and Random,
who owns most of Texorami, have been silent business partners
for ages. It's a sore spot for Bleys, but who cares. I'm going
to have a great time in Texorami. It's not so darn hot there
and there are no Jedi."
"Hey, where can I go to get the best, you know, stuff
for my money?" "If you are talking about drugs,
go to Avalon. They have connections with everyone. And a fresh
supply of mercenaries too from what I hear, just in case you
need some help moving things." "Thanks!"
"Read the news! That whole family on Shadow Tara is
a mess. Trying to take control of the government by letting
a bio-engineered plague loose and then coming to the rescue
with a cure. How low!" "Yeah, but fortunately Count
Marcus Grakt intervened. He's one of the most respected senators
around. But he's been gone from the Senate for a while. His
power there has likely weakened." "Tara is a nice
break from the fast pace, but yeah, I bet his opposition hasn't
let up. Let's hope for the best." "I'm hoping that
artificial plague doesn't hit anywhere else."

The Daily Republic (Gossip Column): Leon Avalon Hill
Dawn. A hilltop just outside of the city of Avalon. A thin
layer of snow on the ground, reflecting the morning sunshine.
Let's be honest, shall we? You all know that Johan Bek would
never be seen out of bed before 10. And who can handle a sword
when their nose is freezing off? Heaters and a portable deflector
shield had been set up, to keep the area warm and dry.
Everyone had arrived by eleven. Johan and his droid attendant
stood at one end of the ring, facing Berr and Weevo. The referee
was off to one side, facing the spectators (including Berrs'
wife). She spoke into her amplifier:
"The duel is to first blood. The weapon will be the
greatsword" There was a gasp from the few who hadn't
been following events closely enough. The greatsword was only
still on the books because of tradition. No skilled duelist
used it because it was too heavy and cumbersome. "Should
Berr win, Johan shall apologize for defamation of honor. Should
Johan win, Berr will apologize for slander. The duelists shall
now make their statements."
Berr stepped into the ring. "Johan Bek, you are an playboy,
a fop, and a slime who deceives your readers to fund your
drinking habit."
Johan followed, somewhat less confidently. "I have never
fought before today, but I shall defend my honor. As for the
rest, I shall compose my answer later."
The swords were presented to the duelists. A ritual salute,
and with the drop of a rose the duel began. Berr started in
with hard, chopping blows. Johan gave ground, blocking only
as necessary, and composed (bad) poetry.
"Your strength is great, I will admit. Much like an
ant, or even a Wookie. But in love it is skill, not strength,
that tells." As Berr overextended himself, Johan brought
his sword up from below, striking Berr's blade at the hilt.
"The mind? No, the heart is where my skill lies."
Johan feints a thrust at Berr's head, then for his heart,
driving Berr back several steps.
Berr recovers, and assumes a more traditional fencing posture.
Johan remains facing front, sword across his body. There are
several exchanges, then a clinch. Johan gets pushed back and
lands in a crouch at the edge of the ring. His swordtip comes
up before Berr can follow up.
"My sword has strength, and length, enough for you.
But time will show I am the better man. For I fight for love,"
and Johan charges. "and trust" and he swings a fast,
low side cut "and no one can stand against the magic
of the ruinous poem" and he connects.
Berr goes down with a grown of pain as the sword enters his
leg. The crowd groans as they realize just how bad Johan's
poetry is, then cheers when they realize he's done with it.
Weevo comes forward to apply bacta to his friends wound.
Johan returns the sword to the referee, then turns and leans
on his droid. "Where's my morning drink, DR3V? I hate
composing on an empty stomach." The pair turn and stumble
back towards the waiting skimmers.
The celebration party took place that evening. Johan demonstrated
his swordplay with an available glowrod, but whenever he got
ready to show off his poetry a drink seemed to materialize
in his hand. He finally passed out onto a floater, and DR3V
quietly pushed him back to his quarters.

The Daily Republic (Sports Column): The Great Pod Race
At the sound of the starting whistle and to a loud crescendo
of cheering from the packed stands, the cluster of 16 pods
shoots away from the starting line, swirling a cloud of dust
about the runway and disappearing from sight within seconds.
The crowd, some too excited to sit, turns as one to the two
large viewscreens, each the size of a movie screen and divided
into four sections, where strategically placed cameras along
the racecourse broadcast the race.
The pods skim the rough terrain at breakneck speed, thin
trails of dust following them like half-hearted pennons. They
first move as a pack, but as the first burst of speed levels
out, the field of vehicles begins to stretch, slower pods
being easily left behind. Greazybastard quickly gains a place
within the front, jockeying for third position as the race
passes through the beginning stage over open ground, then
into a series of canyons, forcing the positions to remain
fixed in the narrow flyways. Scarlet Slipper takes position
in the middle of the pack with four other pods, the remaining
vehicles trailing out behind in a loose line of twos or ones.
Sounds of side-betting going on, the way people previously
complaining about the heat now watched the race with no concern
for the sun beating on their heads, the constant comparison
of pod design and racing skills going on as individuals regale
their companions about the various merits of their favorites.
Greazybastard is named often, apparently a favorite in the
crowd.
The pods zip and swerve expertly through the narrow canyons
into a slightly wider area near the exit, mostly narrowly
missing the walls until number four pod, a large white and
orange affair, misjudges the width of one area and tries to
pass Greazybastard. With a puff of flame and a cloud of debris,
the pod skims too close to the canyon wall and impacts with
a small outcropping. Greazybastard swerves away, avoiding
damage and continuing to closely follow the two leaders. The
other pods following are forced to fly through the resultant
flying pod parts though, one of which hits the number six
pod, causing another casualty as the pod spins out of control
and careens into the opposite wall, the forward momentum throwing
the debris up over the canyon wall and into the plain ahead.
Scarlet Slipper gains the number six spot, keeping close to
the slim fuschia and purple pod in the number five spot.
Tearing ones attention away from Scarlet Slipper's near demise,
you notice Greazybastard, seeing that the frontrunners have
reached the caves and are dancing around pillars of stone,
ignoring each other in favor of personal survival. No pods
are lost this first time through the cave, and you can hear
a few exclamations of relief over the survival of various
drivers. The pods all scream over the final flat area, the
sounds of the crowd growing as they approach, and as a group
the audience turns its attention away from the screens and
to the courtyard, cheering on their favorites as the pods
appear, zoom past, and are gone again, each in sight for less
than a minute.
The second lap begins with ferocious competition for the
third and fourth place slots. Scarlet Slipper begins moving
up, showing more staying power than others in its pack. Greazybastard
also begins to move up on the two leaders, pulling nearly
even to the number two pod and racing over the plain neck-and-neck,
almost too close for the observers' comfort, heading quickly
towards the mouth of the canyons. The green and gold pod in
second place suddenly swerves over, attempting to push Greazybastard
off to the side and into the fast-approaching wall of rock.
But apparently seeing the move coming, Greazybastard also
swerves, towards the competitor. The two pods clash together,
a collective gasp going up from the crowd as the two pod racers
play chicken with the canyon wall and each other, pods scraping
and screeching against each other. Tension peaks as the rival
pod, mere seconds away from oblivion, suddenly brakes desperately,
leaving Greazybastard a clear shot at the canyon mouth. He
shoots in without contest while the pods behind them swerve
madly to avoid the now almost-still previous holder of the
number two slot. The driver kicks his pod back into motion,
now in last place.
One more pod is lost in the intricate twists and turns of
the canyons, striking a glancing blow off of a looming pillar
and spinning helplessly into the side of the canyon and bouncing
back and forth between the walls for several seconds before
finally lodging into a sand-filled crevice. The other stragglers
quickly pass the wreckage, following the leaders, Greazybastard
in second place and Scarlet Slipper holding a close third
as they zoom through the caves. Another pod, taking advantage
of the slight speed decrease of the leaders through the dark
and dangerous cave, moves up and passes Scarlet Slipper, edging
near Greazybastard as the group bursts from the cave and again
flashes over the plain towards the stadium courtyard, whizzing
through to another cheer, and disappearing from sight in an
eyeblink.
As the second lap ends, a fight breaks out over an insult
about one of the pods. Their attention is dragged away briefly
from the drama on the screen as the two participants are quickly
joined by others ready for a release of excitement and tension
from the race. The argument is immediately transformed into
a humanoid and alien pile-up, shouting and screaming, arms
and legs flailing, their whole section of the stand turning
its attention from the distant pods as things heat up right
nearby. The fight is some distance off, but Stadium Security,
a mismatched bunch of aliens in armored uniforms bearing blasters
and shock sticks appears quickly, races past their little
group and begins unpiling combatants, using any force necessary
to subdue the disturbance.
Most of the spectators turn their attention back to the racing
action, leaving the security grunts to their work, to find
that the pod positions had changed very little during the
short distraction. As the pods near the end of the stretch
of canyons, Greazybastard in second and Scarlet Slipper in
fourth, something goes wrong with the first place pod. The
cameras show it seem to cough, then sputter, and then it slows
dramatically, coming to a full halt and settling to the sand
within moments. The other three pods speed past the unlucky
one without hesitation, Greazybastard now out in front as
they head towards the caves.
All three frontrunners keep their speed at maximum as they
enter the caves, swerving and diving around rock formations,
taking chances now on the last lap, as the race nears its
dramatic end. None of the spectators pay any attention to
the other pods now, all eyes fixed on the darkened screen
showing bits and pieces of action from the poorly lit cave.
A flash of light illuminates the screen abruptly, showing
a momentary ball of fire and more flying debris, then Greazybastard
and Scarlet Slipper shoot out of the caves almost even, and
enter the final level stretch of the race, neither gaining
any advantage over the other for several agonizing moments.
In the stands, the spectators take up a long and unbroken
cheer as the leading pods break into the last leg of the race.
The noise begins rising towards a peak as they turn their
attention from the screen to the long runway leading again
to the courtyard in front of the stands and the finish line,
all looking for the first sight of the winning pod. As the
two leading pods skim towards the finish, Greazybastard's
driver suddenly swerves his pod over and rams into Scarlet
Slipper attempting to push the other pod into a pillar of
rock jutting into the race course. Scarlet Slipper skitters
away from the other pod, losing a few meters as it swerves
around the spike of rock, then zooms back towards the finish
line, trying to make up for lost time.
Suddenly, Scarlet Slipper kicks in an unexpected burst of
speed, abruptly shooting forward, catching up to and passing
Greazybastard, and leaving the third place pod flatfooted.
Taken by surprise, Greazybastard swerves crazily in a desperate
attempt to take out the challenger, too sharply it turns out,
as one of the pod's levitators hits the ground a glancing
blow. The part is instantly shredded at the high speed, sending
a hail of metal flying into the air as the cockpit of the
pod continues to shoot forward. The screams in the crowd rise
to greater pitch as the people ecstatically cheer on the winner,
Scarlet Slipper, who sails past the stands, the driver lifting
a hand in triumph as the pod slows, zooming around the corner,
the green and gold pod taking second. Greazybastard's cockpit,
carried by momentum down the runway and across the finish
line, takes a nominal third place, the remaining survivors
limping in after.

The Daily Republic: Salvation through Charity
While the hope for a cure is bleak on Shadow Tara the aid
never ceases. A testament to the love of Tara's people within
in the Republic. Without Count Marcus Grakt's efforts behind
the race it is thought hat most of the inhabitants would
have perished long ago.
Most recently acknowledged, is medical assistance from the
League of Shadows. Their offering both encouraging and appreciated
in this time of need.

The Daily Republic (Gossip Column): Sylvain Spottings
Reports from the streets in New York on Shadow Earth are
that the fugitive superstar, Cara Sylvain, was seen being
hustled into the offices of her attorneys under the watchful
eye of Stalmos Tremane and heavy security late last night.
Security is tight in and around the building and the only
word from the people answering calls is "Beyond the statement
issued by Bryce Garabaldi, we have no comment"
Cara Sylvain's personal transport was spotted in the Ygg
sector by an alert traveler who wishes to remain anonymous
this afternoon. It is believed she is heading there to meet
with members of her management team and a group of financial
backers.

The Daily Republic: Official Press Release (CSFA)
I would like to start out by saying that myself and millions
of others throughout the Republic are shocked, appalled and
dismayed at recent events on Avernus and statements that have
been issued by both Regent Gerard of Amber and Supreme Chancellor
Martin. We find it distressing how quickly they have turned
on their own with absolutely no evidence beyond the word of
four Amber Marines whose behavior is suspect at best. Frankly,
we expected better.
As Ms Sylvain risks incarceration or even death at the hands
of unscrupulus bounty hunters questionably authorized by Supreme
Chancellor Martin if she were to defy the counsel of her attornies
and come forward to speak for herself, and since the statements
of her lawyers are being ignored by those in authority, I
have been selected to come forward at this time and make a
statement on behalf of her supporters.
Cara has given much to the Republic; her time and energy
and not to mention profits. Even her detractors have to agree
to at least that much. She risked her life by crossing the
Wiermonken blockades around Amber more than once to get in
and give concerts to raise troop morale-at the request of
a member of Amber's royal family. When she wasn't there, she
was out giving concerts to raise money for the Widows and
Orphans' War Fund for a world that she wasn't even a citizen
of because she *thought* she had friends there.
Obviously the standard definition of 'friend' does not hold
in Amber. Every time she agrees to perform at the request
of one of the royal family of Amber, she loses money. Lately
the price has been much higher. She was honored and excited
to be invited to perform at the Republic Celebration not all
that long ago. It was there, as I have learned recently, that
she was infected with the same parasite that many others were
at that time. It was that infection that led to her forced
haitus from performing. A physican ordered hiatus that she
willing broke because General Bleys, yet another member of
Amber's royal family to make such a request, asked her to
give a concert at his establishment, a selfless act which
has now ended with the high price of the loss of her freedom
and good name.
Be aware, those who have the authority to correct this heinous
situation, that we will not sit still and silent while a *Jedi*,
a respected member of the *press* and citizen of Rebma, *the*
most famous entertainer in the entire Republic, *and* a*ruling
Monarch* of a world supposedly friendly with Amber are so
grossly maligned and falsely imprisoned. Frankly, we are amazed
that Kashfa is not mustering at Avernus's borders for this
insult to King Rinaldo and, by extension, themselves.
Queen Coral has our sympathies and support.
Prince Bleys, wherever you are-for you have been strangely
silent through all this - many with travel plans and reservations
to the Vermillion Palace are cancelling even now-including
myself. Word has already spread throughout the entertainment
industry to avoid Avernus at all costs or risk suffering the
same fate at the hands of overzealous Amber Marines. If you
can tear yourself away from whatever is so pressing that this
is being allowed to continue under your very nose and check
your booking schedule for the coming months, you will see
over a dozen future cancellations as of this morning. We really
must insist that the Marines in quesiton be investigated as
a whole for accusing a *Jedi* of subversion; an act that reeks
of corruption that likely extends to the very heart of Amber's
military. It is our contention that a full formal investigation
needs to be made as soon as possible.
I am also personally aware of several thousand pieces of
mail from others voicing their protests that is already heading
for Avernus, Amber and the offices of the Supreme Chancellor.
Until this is resolved and apologies issued for this slander,
Cara's legion of fans outside of Amber will be boycotting
any and all Amber trade goods and if you think that is something
to sneeze at, Prince Gerard, I can provide you with hard numbers
of the membership of her official fan club alone. We're talking
millions and quite a few of them are people in positions of
power and influence on their home worlds. Decison making power.
Political power, Supreme Chancellor, that is not limited to
the Esteemed Senator from Tara. What Cara's fans in Amber
will be doing, well, I can only guess. But as they are in
the same place as the ones who can put a stop to this madness,
I can guarentee it will be both visible and vocal with a few
aims where it will hurt-to the economy. If the situation weren't
so serious it would be laughable.
Cara Sylvain has been very vocal in her support of the Republic
for years and for anyone to believe she was knowingly involved
in activites to subvert the Republic is simply absurd. Clearly
her accusers have their own agendas and are using Cara and
the other wrongly accused to distract authorities from their
own activites.

The Next Day
As each life begins anew in the coming morning. Lives renewed
with the promise of another day of opportunities, to change
the course of destiny. On Shadow Avernus... Recent news from
Shadow Avernus indicates that a handful of influential Republic
citizens may be in league with outside conspirators who seek
the downfall of the great Republic. Unconfirmed reports suggest
that a schism within the ranks of the Jedi Order is only the
beginning for things to come.
Anonymous sources state that advance Jedi peace keeping forces
have infiltrated Shadow Avernus and have begun a guerilla
warfare campaign on Mos Jesby in the hope of quelling the
rogue Jedi.
On Shadow Amber... Today marked the turning point in an otherwise
conservative administration under the guidance of Supreme
Chancellor Martin. Martin signed in an order which was approved
under the Temporary Powers Provision Act, that allows the
use of third party members to conduct contractual investigations
on behalf of Republic interests. In short, the use of Bounty
Hunters. "The Republic will not tolerate the use of terrorism
to fragmentize or tear what has been built asunder. The great
peace and civilization we all share will pull together and
we will meet every challenge with strength of character and
courage."
Member nations throughout the Republic have upgraded alerts
pending the conspiracy investigations headed by the Minister
of the Interior. Unfortunately, Minister Norman Ingaroth was
not available for comment. Special Republic agents have been
sent to Shadow Avernus.
Regent Prince Gerard of Amber stated, "The will of
Amber stands by the will of the Republic. Amber will not harbor
anyone associated with conspiracy against the Republic."
Debate within the Senate ensued regarding the use of the TPPA
based on the events in one Shadow.
Accusations of plots to move the Senate to Ygg no matter
the means continue dam up the Senate for hours. On Shadow
Rebma... Queen Xanieas pleaded with the Supreme Chancellor
to seek non-aggressive tactics.
On the League of Shadows... General Dalt stated that anyone
caught working against the Republic in The League of Shadows
would be arrested and held for Republic officials to take
for questioning.

Senate Battles
Earlier today the Supreme Chancellor, Martin of Rebma and
Amber, broke through his coma. His physicians believe that
he should make a full recovery within the next few weeks.
News of the Supreme Chancellor's health has sent stocks soaring
in the Republic and Trade Federation markets. However, some
within the Senate are pessimistic that the young Supreme Chancellor
can resolve the internal conflicts between Republic Fundamentalists
and New Order Thinkers. Some believe that the vote over where
the Republic Senate's location was rigged and that Amber corruption
was the cause preventing the Republic from evolving into a
stronger and more enlightened system in Ygg.
Black Days on Tara
In other news, Republic pathogenic investigators believe
that the recent deadly plague on Shadow Tara was perhaps biological
warfare rather than a natural event. Further tests are being
conducted, but the strain shows signs of bacteria not native
to Tara's ecosystem. The quarantine continues until investigators
can completely isolate and eradicate the plague.
Stolen History
The search for the missing Sword of Chaos continues. Today,
Master Benedict assigned a group of Jedi Knights to search
and recover the missing museum piece. A 3 million Republic
Credit reward for handing in both the sword and the thief
responsible has been issued. Please be sure to contact your
local Republic officer for details.
Amber Status
Where in the multiverse is King Random? King Corwin of Shadow
Pariz is leading a search throughout Shadow to locate his
missing sibling for the sake of Amber. Admiral Gerard of Amber
has claimed temporary regency over Amber at this time until
Random returns alive, or until another heir may be named should
Random not be found within five years time.
Reactions to The Parasite Menace
Uproar in the Senate earlier today as a handful of senators
claim to have been poisoned by Amber in retaliation for their
views to open Tir-Na Nog'th mines to all members of the Republic.
Senator Koresh is leading the charge, claiming that while
at the 400th year Republic Birthday Party that many of his
colleagues were poisoned with a parasite that has left his
wife in critical condition. Senator Koresh is seeking a full
investigation and restrictions on Amber to be temporarily
stripped of its voting powers until the matter has been settled
and an antidote distributed.
Top physicians remaining in Amber have been forced to present
their data to the Senate indicating that the organism is foreign
to Amber and any known within the Republic biological archives.
The organism bonds with the nervous system (at the base of
the spine) of an individual. For most it seemingly lies dormant,
but for some it causes pain, emotional or irrational responses,
and for a handful it has induced blackouts and paralysis.
Queen Xanieas remarked to Senator Koresh's allegations with
the following, "When madness rules our judgement, a terrible
fate awaits us. Let the answers be found."

The Daily Republic (Live Broadcast): Senate Battle
Juliette took her place in the speakers box. "There
should be no debate of this, the Senate should as always remain
in Amber. We should not let the actions of terrorists drive
us to another place. A place probably of their choosing. Do
we wish to make ourselves even more vulnerable, do we show
our fear by running from them, or do we stand united together,
and fight for the very foundations this Republic was founded
upon. I say we stand firm, we tell those who would subdue
and intimidate us 'NO' we will not be turned into running
rodents deserting our ship before it sinks. If ever there
needed to be a firm leadership and those standing against
tyranny and darkness, Now is that time. I vote to STAY in
Amber." with her words ringing in the air, the Princess
of Avalon took her seat.
"Would these terrorists have attacked Amber if it was
not the home of the Republic? Would its king be missing? Would
the other realms represented here be freed of the pro-Amber
status within the Republic? Would the other voices have a
chance to be heard elsewhere?" This is from Senator Koresh
of the Alyin System.
Senator Marcus stands. "Your questions puzzle me Senator.
Your first two seem to imply we should move to Ygg for Amber's
own protection." He chuckles. "And your other two
address questions the Senate would have to debate regardless
of its location." Marcus looks out over the crowd. "The
question before us is a simple one, can we as Senators best
serve the needs of our people's here or in Ygg? I don't see
how moving does anything but take us away from the heart of
the technology that even makes this Republic possible. I keep
my friends close and my enemies closer. However you view the
family of Amber, it behooves us all to stay close to the center
of things. To keep our goals and those that we must work with
to achieve them in sight. I vote to stay."
Koresh sneers. "I know all about _your_ reasons... you
and Senator Rand taking kickbacks in return for pro-Amber
support."
The Senate council room breaks out into talk.
Koresh continues. "I have the documents here to prove
that Amber has corrupted over a dozen Realms. Avalon and Tara
are just two such in the pocket of Amber."
The alarmed talk grows so loud that the aids to the Supreme
Chancellor repeatedly ask for all to quiet down but the chatter
is raging out of control.
Marcus looks at him coldly. "I look forward to teaching
you the penalties for perjury, slander, and libel, Koresh.
And perhaps the Senate would be interested in my documents
about your mercenaries attacking the supply lines to Amber!"
Marcus thunders.
Juli rose to her full height, while petite, somehow she managed
to look tall and imposing. Her voice rang out over the din
with a tone that could not be ignored, it was a command, "SILENCE"
she looked around the room at each group of Senators, when
all had ceased to talk, she turned her eyes on Koresh, "You
insult me and my land with your groundless accusations. Perhaps
we should all be looking at you.... and what you have to gain
by moving the Senate. My reputation for honesty and good faith
in dealing with other members of the republic speaks for itself,
can you say the same of yours?" her cool gaze stayed
locked on his.
"My system has given the most of any other realm here
in medical support. Our physicians, our industries... our
livelihood is poured into the Republic and you demand proof?
I'll show you." Koresh turns to the aids. "I request
permission to display my _proof_?"
The aids agree.
Koresh lays out on a 3D holo-display financial transactions
from Amber bank accounts into Tara, Avalon, and a few other
realms under junk titles and other dubious causes. Also a
taped recording of King Reynardt accepting a bribe from King
Random.
Marcus stands. "I demand a commission be formed to verify
the veracity of this so called proof. I see nothing here that
could not easily be falsified."
Other senators agree with this... the aides agree to look
into the matter.
"If there is no other issues... we will carry out the
vote. The result will be announced in one hour. You may leave
following your vote. See you in one hour. Dismissed."
The electronic gavel sound thunders and the talking erupts
again.
An hour passes uneventfully...
The aids call things to order.
"The vote for the fate of the Senate is as follows...
The Senate shall remain in Amber."
There are outburts and the aids call an end to the special session.

The Daily Republic: What Are They Teaching Children Nowadays?
By Johan Bek
The Jedi Knights, an organization funded by public taxation,
seem to be teaching their cadets the fine arts of dissipation,
destruction, and drunkenness courtesy of the Princess Florimel.
After the abortive "Birthday Party of the Republic",
Jedi Cadet D'Eain was treated to a very vigourous night on
the town. There have been rumours of the Princess's influence
over the Order in the past, but now she seems more than willing
to come out in the open. Are her plans coming to fruition?
What would happen if the elite arbitrators of the Republic
were tempted away from their vows? Even the APPEARANCE of
such tarnishes their reputation and hurts the Republic. After
all, the Senate is simply a market of law; something that
is now biting us in the back with the apparent crimes of Mr.
DuBuis, who probably owns half of the Senators. The Jedi are
the last defense of the citizens of the Republic. If they
are turned into Flora's bodyservants, how long will it be
before the Hutts and the Trade Federation move in?
Will the whims of royalty really destroy the innocent young
Jedi? I for one certainly hope not.

The Republic Star: "Somewhere in Kansas"
Date: Sun, 11 Aug 2002 11:56:53 -0500
The Republic Star is pleased to bring you "Somewhere
in Kansas" by Auntie Em
Well, well, well, Auntie Em, has lots of gossip for all of
you this season. Let's see, the Republic's swan, Ms. Cara
Sylvain, continues to enchant and bedazzle most of the sector.
At the recent Republic birthday party, she sang quite the
sexy duet with Princess Florimel about the pleasures of a
threesome and brought the house down. Quite literally. The
birthday cake exploded and unknown assailants attacked several
party attendees. Rumors abound, and the usual suspects are
fingered but who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of the
Multiverse. You might say the birthday party was a smashing
success. King's Corwin, Random and Rinaldo were in attendance
as were most Senators such as Marcus Grakt, and a smattering
of the ever guardful Jedi. Unfortunately, a moment of silence,
several party goers were injured or killed. My heart goes
out to all of their grieving families.
Auntie Em worries about our dear sad King Random. His disappearance
since the party has the Republic in an uproar. King Corwin
has gone off to rescue his brother. Some rumors have it that
Random just needed a vacation. Are Corwin and Random out partying
and taking a break in one of their famous gambling and drinking
parties out in Shadow Texorami?
And the Jedi, what part do they play in all of this? Auntie
Em, is wondering what has these dark, brooding, silent Force
types all emotional. Rumors from Avernus, says that some bug
has the Jedi up in arms. Shame on them for their crazy behaviors.
Not all the Jedi are busy causing messes, some of them have
been seen cavorting with all of the beautiful ladies of the
world. One hunky Padawan Aidan, has been seen sporting his
good looks with both Princess Flora and singer, Cara Sylvain.
We can only envy him and ask, where do I sign up to become
a Jedi?
And speaking of Jedi, one last time, Master Dworkin, always
an enigma. Leader of the Jedi and grandfather to many of our
leading rulers. Has being a Jedi tired him out? Do we have
love in the air? A certain, journalist, Helena Shevale, interviewed
him for Focus magazine. Several months later, our lovely purple-haired
darling, is spotted dancing in Drowrkin's arms. What will
Dworkin do? Leave the order and fall his heart's desire?
Tune in next time and Auntie Em will have the dish.

The Republic Birthday Party!
The 400 year Republic Birthday Party is in Amber City, and
then some. This includes events such as live entertainment,
food, games, and shopping in Forest Arden, the Western Marches,
the Amber Beach, and the Garnath Valley.
The space and seaports are hectic. Customs seems to take
forever, but once through your characters are greeted with
open arms and loud music and people. There are public information
booths and Amber City Security Officers available to help
guide people to and from their destinations. Plenty of speedercabs
are about. Also, horses and speederbikes for rental.
The big event is the Birthday Bash at Castle Amber at sundown,
however many people head to the castle long beforehand to
rub elbows with the elite.
On the exterior Castle Amber seems quite ancient, however,
inside it is richly decorated with a mix of handcrafted art
and Tir-na Nog’th conveniences. Only certain areas of
the castle are open to the public.
Acknowledged Royal family members have greater reign to wander
the castle. There is an excessive amount of Amber (green and
gold with a white unicorn symbol) and Republic (red and white)
guards armed with blades and blasters.
The main hallway, several sitting rooms, and the main hall
are open to the public. The main hall is crowded with Amber
and Rebma guild members peddling their services alongside
the nobles and senators who decided to make an appearance.
Servants wander about offering samples of food and drink yet
to come.
King Corwin is dressed in black slacks, shirt, boots, and
cloak with silver trim and Greyswandir at his side and a silver
rose clasping his cloak. His black hair is cut short. His
blue eyes sparkle as he makes his rounds smiling and talking
to people.
King Random is a short man with straw colored hair and light
eyes. Random is wearing a green and gold-stripped vest over
a dark brown shirt and slacks. His green cloak flows as he
walks sometimes revealing his long sword or his heavy blaster.
Random holds a goblet of wine in his left hand and shakes
hands with his free right. His golden unicorn ring is snug
on his right ring finger.
Admiral Gerard is always standing a couple steps behind Corwin
and Random. Gerard is mostly quiet, though polite enough to
answer questions. His hair is dark and cut close to the head
in a clean military style. His heavy frame is clothed in a
dark green dress uniform with golden buttons and stripes.
Each button holding an image of the Unicorn rampant. His rank
is indicated on his lapel. Gerard’s broadsword is sheathed
at his side in dress scabbard and peace-tied. Gerard eyes
the guests carefully before speaking to them.
Former Supreme Chancellor Ian is dressed in a simple gray
and black tunic. Ian has black hair and blue eyes, like his
late father, Prince Eric of Amber, though Ian looks worn and
out of shape with a small paunch and a receding hair-line.
He is open to chat with people but does not draw much attention
to himself. He tends to hang out with other senator types
on the fringe near the buffet tables and discuss politics,
history, and the latest symphonies.
Supreme Chancellor Martin walks around the ballroom, with
four dark-blue gowned Republic Guards lurking nearby. Martin
is dressed in the red and white robes of the Senate Supreme
Chancellor. A ring on his right hand signifies his rank as
well. Martin’s hair is almost blonde and straight, combed
back in a handsome fashion. His light blue-green eyes are
sharply focused on anyone talking to him. Martin makes the
rounds more than anyone it seems and is quite willing to speak
to anyone, though he makes the comment that work talk is off-limits
this evening, preferring to chat about family, hobbies, and
adventures this night.
King Rinaldo discusses his fabulous Trade Federation. He
manages to get it in there no matter what--much to the surprise
of anyone talking to him. Rinaldo is a handsome man with longer
than average red hair and green eyes. Rinaldo is dressed in
the most sophisticated suit and cloak ensemble credits can
buy. The subtle greens and red compliment him nicely. Rinaldo
passes out holo-business cards to everyone, whether they know
it or not. Rinaldo also likes to discuss sports, stocks, the
Trade Federation, family gossip, and the Trade Federation.
Queen Coral is a tall woman with reddish brown hair styled
in an intricate braid. There is a smaller braid off to the
side on the back right that has some gray woven in. She is
dressed in a simple sleeveless crimson evening gown with matching
heels and long white gloves. She is wearing a diamond and
ruby necklace and her rings signifying claim as queen over
Begma and Kashfa. Coral makes it around to people and greets
them to Amber City if she knows they are here for the first
time. Coral likes to drop the official titles and enjoys talking
to everyone.
General Bleys finds his way from discussion group to group,
particularly if the group contains an attractive woman. Bleys
is dressed in a red and brown suit. His bright orange-red
hair and beard are styled attractively for the event. His
blue eyes catch the attention of many young women for a few
moments outside in private. Bleys is an expert on beverages,
and travel spots. His sword, Aurilus, hangs by his side casually.
Bleys also wears his rings and a jeweled-lightsaber.
Master Fiona is a short woman with green eyes and dark red
hair tied back out of the way. She moves slowly around the
room, mostly avoiding many. There always seems to be another
Jedi near her at some point who receives a whispered order
from Fiona. Fiona is dressed in simple Jedi robes of gray
and dark brown. She has a green bracelet on her left arm that
she tends to mindlessly play with during conversations.
Master Tyr arrives at the party dressed in simple Jedi robes.
His long dark hair is tied back in a ponytail. His dark eyes
search out the room as he enters. He moves smoothly and fluidly
despite his large size.
Aidan is a tall wiry young man, a charming smile on his clean-shaven
face. His dark green eyes appear to be looking directly into
yours, challengingly. He wears the uniform of a Jedi cadet.
His simple white cotton shirt is clean, as are the dark grey
uniform slacks, and boots he wears. His left ear is pierced
with a small silver triangle. The earring matches a band of
silver he wears around his right wrist.
Prince Octavian is wearing one of his trademark white outfits
for the party, consisting of a full-bottomed or frock coat
with elaborate embroidery and beadwork along the lapels and
hem, damask waistcoat, shirt with flowing lace jabot and cuffs,
satin knee britches, silk hose, and white kidskin leather
dancing slippers with silver buckles. His hair is white, waved,
and caught back with a velvet ribbon. He will be escorting
Ms. Helena Shevala. His chauffeur and gentlemen's gentledroid,
J3-VS, a tasteful gunmetal grey protocol model, is hovering
around wherever droids are permitted.
Ms. Helena Shevala wears an ankle-length and long-sleeved
clinging gown of shimmery royal blue with a rounded neckline.
The dress is completely unadorned except for many tiny blue-pearl
buttons down the back. Her lavender hair is worn swept away
from her face with sapphire-edged combs, tumbling down waves
to the middle of her back. Sapphire necklace and earrings,
and blue high-heeled shoes complete the ensemble. She is holding
a small laptop and a palm-sized recording device.
Cara Sylvain arrives in on the arm of Senator Marcus Grakt,
Cara is resplendent as always. Tonight's occasion -both the
celebration and her performance- warranted something new and
exciting and got it in spades. Over a black semi sheer sheath,
she wears a web of gold, scattered with strategically positioned
cabachon cut jewels in a myriad of blues and greens arranged
to resemble trailing peacock feathers. Her hair falls in loose
curls down her back, kept back from her face by simple gold
combs that work well with her dress and the drops of liquid-gold
that hang from her ears. Around her neck and nestled perfectly
in one of the diamonds formed by gold web of her gown is her
trademark silver locket.
Senator, and Lord of the Third House, of Tara, Marcus Grakt
has dark eyes, dark hair down to his shoulders, mustache and
goatee framing his face. Marcus is dressed in an outfit of
brown and black - his normal wear as a senator.
Mr. Ranma Saotome is a very handsome young man, apparently
in his early 20s with gold-flecked crystal blue eyes, and
shiny black hair. His skin is an attractive pale-golden hue.
He's of around average height, at 5'10", and he's apparently
fairly slender, at around 140 pounds. Though slender, his
body is fairly muscular, and he moves with a dancer's grace.
He has no facial hair, and very little body hair of any sort.
Ranma is wearing a black hakama with silver inlay, and loose
black trousers, along with shiny black boots. He is staying
near the Prime Minister at all times, and seems to remain
alert for any possible threats.
Prime Minister Yualn of Eregnor is a middle-aged looking
man with thinning white hair and a heavy build. He is dressed
in a blue suit with a purple cloak. His beady little black
eyes search out the crowd constantly. He seems nervous and
jittery and tends to spill some of his drink on himself when
he sips from it. He stays near his escort, Ranma, like a shadow.
Ladro is wearing a dark blue suit with white buttons. It
is flashy with a lot of flare and a wide collar. Ladro is
approx. 6'1". He has strawberry blonde hair he keeps
close cropped and a bright red goatee, very well trimmed.
He has very fair skin and just a touch of freckles on his
nose and forearms. His eyes are dark-blue and he has a large
almost square chin
Sir Kemni Traquez is an older looking man with gray hair
close-cropped at the sides. His blue eyes are very dark, almost
black. The man is lanky and dressed in a stiff black suit
and white starched shirt, without a cloak, but with small
silver buttons. He holds a walking stick with a silver gryphon
head at its top and a spiraling silver horn at its base. Sir
Traquez wears several silver rings and of course has cufflinks.
He stays on the periphery of the room, talking to the occasional
quest from time to time.
Princess Juliette Rand, Senator and Heir Apparent of Avalon,
appears in a gown of what looks like spun gold, it has a silky
cling and fits her body like a glove. It is just off the shoulder
with capped sleeves and trimmed in burgundy. She wears opera
length matching gloves and her hair is braided with gold and
burgundy ribbons that have tiny jewels encrusted on them and
one braid is wound like a crown while the remaining braid
hangs down her back ending in an elaborate golden ring at
the bottom of the braid. Her hair is golden and shimmers with
both the matched gold ribbon and the contrasting burgundy.
Her lips are rouged a rich burgundy wine color that sets off
against her fair skin. Her eyes are lined in a deep blue koal
and have a soft rainbow of sparkling color on the lids and
her cheeks are dusted with a soft rosy glow.
Senator Merit Azuray of Kategeno is a tall (6'3"), thin
(180lbs), dark-skinned man, middle-aged, with a prominent
nose, and a neatly trimmed black beard. He is wearing new
sandy yellow robes and jackboots, and a plain headband of
pure sky blue. He smells of sandalwood, and generally has
a glass of red wine in his hand.
Colonel Norman is wearing his formal sand-and-black high
uniform ("Since everyone will probably in some kind of
silly costume, I'll better dress up too"). He will dutifully
escort his direct superior General Kalkin to the celebration
and then he will try to avoid the most formal-looking guests
and to hover near a buffet. He will try (not hard) to learn
the proper behavior in this kind of meetings ("Remember,
Norman, since you are here you may as well try to study a
bit of practical diplomacy" "Yes, sir"). He
will also try to locate some Trumpnet technicians in the mess
and get nosy on the mechanics (however he will not yet try
to converse with people like Rinaldo or Fiona, knowing he
risks starting a war).
Mr. Johan Bek looks like he has been warming up for this
party for a few days. His green eyes are bloodshot and his
hair is slightly rumpled, but his crimson toga is immaculate,
the golden sunbursts sparkling in the light. Like many liquor
aficionados, he is sporting a flask of purple, sweet-smelling
stuff with just a hint of froth.
Conversations
"Good evening," Helena greets them both with a
warm, if somewhat distracted smile. She hesitates, eyebrows
furrowed for a moment, before suddenly her smile becomes complete.
"Ah, yes. I do apologize. I had to place you both. It
is good to meet both such a well-reputed Senator, and,"
she turns to Cara, "the quite well-received star guest
of tonight's gala."
Cara smiles brilliantly and dips her head in a gracious nod.
"Thank you. I must say I enjoy your work when I have
a chance to read it. Which is why we wished to speak with
you." She looks over at Marcus expectantly.
Helena also turns to him expectantly.
"Indeed. I was hoping to interest you in an exclusive
interview about me." He smiles. "With so much rumor
and such floating about, I wanted to get the true story out
there."
"The truth, Senator?" she replies with a quizzical
expression. "I'm not sure I am aware of what rumors you
are referring to. However, I would be most pleased to meet
with you to discuss anything you would like to talk about."
She smiles again then, a bit mischievously, and adds, "And
I may also have a few questions for you at the time. In the
meantime, perhaps you would be able to share your position
on the shifts in power currently taking place in the Republic
with the election of a new Supreme Chancellor?"
"You obviously have good taste in literature." Marcus
chuckles. "Unlike those that read Bek's writings."
He smiles. "As for the shifts in power, it is the same
kind of reshifting that always come with new leadership."
He shrugs. "Nothing overly exciting in my view."
Interviews
"That is quite right, your majesty," Helena agrees.
"It is good to hear such a sentiment from a reputedly
tough businessman." She smiles charmingly at this, before
noting, "Naturally such a venture is going to be very
frightening to certain quarters. Are you able to share any
plans you may have in order to make the transition easier
for the guilds and consumers?"
"I'd be happy to share venture with anyone, as many
here could testify to... I'm always available to discuss business.
Senator Marcus Grakt for one," Rinaldo smiles and nods
in Marcus' direction. "Many other senators have likewise
paved the way for the road to financial advancement when they
sign on with the Trade Federation." Rinaldo smiles. "The
Trade Federation is also looking for excellent communicators,
Ms. Shevala."
"Indeed, sir," she replies with a small smile.
"I'll keep that in mind. In the meantime, I think your
statement regarding paving the way to financial advancement
to be an interesting turn of phrase," she observes."It
makes it unclear to me who's financial advancement you may
be referring to--the senators or their systems."
"I speak of everyone involved, including myself,"
Rinaldo replies with a smile. He hands Helena a business card
for the Trade Federation on it.
Later
Trumpets blare and the Republic Symphony begins the anthem...
it is a long drawn out piece.
The chorus fills in with the orchestra pieces. And then a
sweet voice... Cara Sylvain's voice pounces into place. A
platform bearing the Supreme Chancellor Martin hovers over
to the front of the room. The music fades away with the applause.
"Esteemed guests of this grand celebration. Unlike in
the Senate Chambers, I won't take much of your time here tonight."
Martin smiles.
"Thank you for showing your support to one of the greatest
achievements ever. Happy 400 years, and may we share many
more!"
More applause and whistles resound throughout the ballroom.
Balloons and streamers and confetti fill the room.
Another platform hovers over near Martin's and then lowers
onto a cleared place. On the second platform is a twenty foot
tall white icing birthday cake.
"May we join together in spirit and in cake and share
our wishes for one another! And to guide us, Ms. Cara Sylvain!"
Cara begins her song with her band on stage near the cake
and several senators who have moved closer to the performance.
Everyone thinks that we're crazy
Darlin' I guess that it's true.
I was so lonely
Without my only
Sweet you.
Now isn't it Lovely in Loveland?
Feeling so happy and gay
Isn't it Lovely in Loveland?
We'll kiss our worries away
For me there can be no other
Nobody else has a clue
No one gets to me
Or can see through me like you
Now isn't it Lovely in Loveland?
Feeling so happy and gay
Isn't it Lovely in Loveland?
We'll kiss our worries away
[Soulful sax solo]
Now isn't it Lovely in Loveland?
Feeling so happy and gay
Isn't it Lovely in Loveland?
We'll kiss our worries away
[longer soulful and sexy sax solo]
I was so lonely
Without my only
Sweet you.
Now isn't it Lovely in Loveland?
Feeling so happy and gay
Isn't it Lovely in Loveland?
We'll kiss our worries
We'll kiss our worries
We'll kiss our worries away
At this point Princess Flora shows up on stage with laser
lights and smoke effects as the techno music rocks the crowd.
The lighting in general is dimmed to near dark as the pulsating
music and light show takes over. A large mix of scantily clad
men and women jump out of shoots in the stage and begin to
dance. Some of them approach audience members and dance with
them.
Flora is singing alongside Cara. Flora's dressed with green
stiletto shoes and in a shimmering jade gown with a long slit
all the way up the left side with diamond pins strategically
placed to keep the dress from falling open. Her hair is swept
to the side with small diamonds in it. Flora's sultry voice
blends well with Cara's.
Random begins to dirty dance with one of the dancers. "Yee
haw!"
Bodies tangled, limbs, confused
Reaching to find another to satisfy your need.
