Low-Mount Alternator
| Mounting the alternator below the motor plate was the result of two basic factors. First, locating the alternator in its customary location would have forced it to set well higher than would have probably been physically possible due to interference with the hood. Second, and just as importantly, from an aesthetic standpoint, setting up high would have cluttered the engine bay, in my opinion. | |
| As can be seen, the pivot bolt goes through the main mounting bracket and the lower edge of the plate. The bracket is actually fabricated from three pieces of 1/4" thick, 3003-H14 grade aluminum and has been heliarced together. | |
| This angle shows where the front portion of the bracket was milled to remove material where the alternator fan requires clearance. The bracket utilizes two of the engine's timing cover plate bolts. What cannot be seen from this angle is the lower adjustment slot on the bracket... | |
| which can be seen in this picture. |
