Motor Plate Upgrade
| The motor plate is made of 1/4" thick, 6061-T6 aluminum. Hawkeye Weld sheared the plate and drilled the water pump mounting holes to my specifications. I then fitted it to the frame rail brackets that Mike, at Hawkeye, made up for me. The finished width of the plate was wider than anything I recall seeing available commercially. A friend and acquaintance of mine (and moonlighting machinist), Bart, milled the four holes in the plate. | |
| Billet "street rod-series" March pullies dress up the front of the engine. | |
| This picture illustrates the mounting system that I devised for attaching the motor plate to the frame rails. Three through-bolts attach the bracket to the rail. The lower one has a 1/2" diameter tube/sleeve that has been inserted into the rail so the frame won't crush when the bolt is tightened down. | |
| This picture shows how the frame bracket fits over the top of the rail pinch weld. Although not visible in this view, there is a 1/8" plate that is welded to the frame bracket against which the motor plate sets and bolts to. Mounting bolts at the frame are 3/8". The socket head cap screw bolts attaching the plate to the mount are 1/2" grade 8. | |
| Here's what the engine sees: Griffin 31x19 universal aluminum 2-core (1" tubes") radiator. Mounting brackets were fabricated. Fan/shroud unit is a Flex-A-Lite dual 12" puller unit, thermostatically controlled. |
