Scale Futura Pics

Here are some pictures of a project that has far surpassed my involvement with my 1:1 car for the past couple of years.  I am in the final stages of mastering a 1/25 scale Fairmont Futura sport coupe body, which, with some modifications could be converted into a Mercury Zephyr Z-7.  Pending approval from FoMoCo, and my finances, I'm planning to have it available in a couple of different configurations:  stock/street machine with side marker lights and/or trim, and a drag race version, minus trim and side marker lights, plus an extended hood/cowl and very probably narrowed and drawn-in bumpers.  The stock/street machine package will be a transkit and will come with all of the exterior pieces (flat hood, bumpers, grille/headlight assembly, taillights) and some interior pieces, including an extended floor pan, side panels and dash.  It will require the use of the 1/25  AMT/Ertle or MPC Fox Mustang kit.  The racing transkit version will come as described above, along with a revised Revell pro mod floor pan/wheel tub combination and forward frame rails, and will require a Revell 55-57 Chevy or 56 Ford pro mod kit as the donor.  Also, all components will be available separately who want more flexibility to scratch build their own setup.  I'm not sure if either of the transkits will come with glass, or whether the builder will need to fabricate their own.  The material the bodies and other pieces will be made out of will not adhere with standard model glue.  Builders must use super glue, or a similar product, to fasten pieces together.
The multi-hues of gray primer, red glazing putty, white styrene and black paint make it look a whole lot uglier than it really it...
Picture showing more of a 3D angle on the body, so you can see the taillights, both bumpers and the very faint outline of the fuel filler door.
Lots of filling and sanding to get the rear bumper so it follows the curvature of the rear of the body.  To start out, I'm planning to have the taillight panel molded in transparent red, with clear backup lights.  I may end up redoing the taillight panel in the long run.
Just another angle showing bumper fitment, door handle recesses and door lock buttons.
I tried my hand at mold making and pouring my own resin body during the summer of 2006.  I only made a handful of castings and decided I needed to make a number of changes to the body to capture more detail.  This picture does show the potential it has for making a cool vintage pro stock or super gas type build.  This is with the ProMod rear axle assembly and rolling stock.
I cannot make any promises how quickly I will be ready to sell body packages, but if you're interested in being contacted when something is available, please feel free to e-mail me.  Given the amount of spam that is inundating my internet service provider, please be sure to include the word "Fairmont" or "Futura" in the subject line so it will catch my attention.
